Canadian Magnetic Imaging
Private MRI Scans & Diagnostic Imaging Vancouver
Who We Are
Canadian Magnetic Imaging is is a private MRI clinic that offers immediate access to its state-of-the-art technology for patients requiring a variety of MRI scans. Our Board-certified radiologist specialize in the brain and body, and are highly skilled at analyzing MRI results, interpreting findings and submitting reports to physicians.
Located in the heart of Vancouver, CMI provides the latest in high-field MRI imaging with open bore design - the Siemens Magneton Espress, the world's first open bore 1.5 Tesla MRI system. This advanced system allows for many MRI exams to be completed with the patient's head outside of the scanner, which means symptoms of claustrophobia are eased, patients are more comfortable, and larger patients (up to 550 pounds) can be accommodated.
We accept referrals from all licensed physicians, including General Practitioners, and offer immediate access for personal injury claimants on a contingent basis. So, if a patient does not recover the MRI cost from their insurer, the scan is free.
CMI offers the Preventative Health Screening Program, which collects over 2000 detailed images in less than 60 minutes. The images are screened for early detection of many illnesses, such as cancer, stroke and vascular disease.
CMI also uses a Picture Archive Communications System (P.A.C.S), which allows physicians anywhere to immediately access their patient's images, as long as they have access to the Internet.
What We Do
Comfort without Claustrophobia
CMI uses the Siemens Magnetom Espree, which is the world’s first open bore 1.5 Tesla MRI system for high resolution imaging. The large MRI opening provides an unparalleled advantage for patient comfort, which is a major factor in acquiring good quality images.
Comfort The large (CT-like) MRI opening of 70 cm allows patients with back pain the ability to bend their knees during an exam
Large patients It's the only MRI scanner in BC that can scan patients up to 550 lbs
No Claustrophobia It provides up to 30cm (1 foot) of head room and up to 55.5 cm (1'10" of patient gap
A scanner length of 125cm (4 feet) allows for more than 60% of exams to be completed with the patient’s head outside of the scanner
Litigation MRI We provide MRI scans to accident claimants on a contingent basis, so if the patient does not recover the cost from their insurer, the scan is free
Online PACS (Picture Archive and Communication System) Referring physicians can access their patient’s MRI images and reports from ANY computer with Internet access

Litigation MRI
The key to litigation-driven MRI is not that it is medically necessary, but rather that it is reasonable and necessary for the proper conduct of the proceeding.
Why MRI?
As a diagnostic tool, MRI is far superior and safer than X-ray (which measures the absorption of ionizing radiation) and (in many instances) computed tomography (CT) scans. Unlike positron emission tomography(PET), which is a computerized scanning technique using radioactive isotopes, there is no controversy in the British Columbia courts about the admissibility of MRI as evidence.
Access to MRI is limited in British Columbia. While waiting lists for a publicly funded MRI vary, the waiting periods are universally too long, with most people not able to obtain timely access to MRI except in the most serious circumstances. Though more public funds have been promised for diagnostic imaging, this proposed increase in access is not relevant to most personal injury claimants as they are not currently on, or candidates for, a waiting list.
